The Villa Medicea of Arena Pisana is one of the few properties in the district of Pisa close to the sea, and also built and inhabited directly by the Medici family of Florence, whose power had been able, between the first half of the XIV century and the first half of the XV century, to join with harmony the great political action and the most elevated expressions of the culture of their times. The rectangular shaped building is a typical example of the 15th-century Medici edifice, with twin towers on 2 sides, and a grand-hall symmetrically flanked by 2 ramps and 4 apartments on each side. The Villa is also very interesting forthe magnificent and representative facade in pure and perfect Florentine style. The beautiful facade is Traditionally attributed to the famous Medicean architect and engineer, Buontalenti.The coat of arms of the Medici family, in white Carrara marble, and with the red cross of the Cavalieri di Santo Stefano, hangs on the magnificent portal that leads inside the property. The Villa Medicea di Arena Pisana has been perfectly restored to its antique splendor.The ground floor can be reached by few serena stone steps from the main doorway and by terracotta steps from the entrance at the rear. From the grand-hall 2 ancient staircase made in serena stone on each side, lead to the first floor, where a second hall introduce the former piano nobile. The palazzo has 2 main entrances and a secondary doorway on one side (in the past used by the servants); The rectangular-shaped building has a side of 40 meters and a side of 20 for a total surface of over 2000 square meters. The ground floor has a grand-hall of 120 square meters, where an immense XV century stone fireplace adorned by coat of arms belonging to the Cafaggiolo family stands out. The palazzo and the annex are surrounded by over 10.000 square meters of fenced and weel-kept land with ancient holm-oaks, magnolias, fruit trees.
